About our Mission

Dollars raised through events like the Tyler Cattle Barons' Gala help the American Cancer Society improve the lives of cancer patients and their families through our mission work.
  • The American Cancer Society is currently funding 52 grants in Texas totaling more than $37 million.

  • The ACS awarded $15,000 to Smith County health systems  in 2022 through patient transportation grants this year. These dollars allow local cancer centers to financially assist in access to care needs for patients traveling to and from treatment.

  • Over 1,730 rides were provided to patients from Smith County in the past two years by the ACS.

  • Over 30 American Cancer Society Hope Lodges throughout the country offer patients and a caregiver a place to stay when traveling away from home to treatment.

  • Our Dallas Hope Lodge can provide up to 18,250 free nights of lodging this year to cancer patients. With an average hotel room rate of $150, this can save cancer patients over $2.7 million per year.

  • In the past six months alone (Jan.-July, 2022), our Hope Lodge Dallas provided over 191 free nights to patients from Smith County with a total of 575 from East Texas Counties.
